Tibet?... You bet!

Tibet has a magical beauty that dances across the tops of the majestic Himalaya's and through it's rugged valley's; it is like nothing you have ever seen before. You will gasp at the vast expanse of mountains and plateaus. You will gasp because of the beauty and the lack of oxygen! Lhasa, the capitol, stands at approximately 12,000 ft (3660m) and even the most physically fit can have issues with the altitude.

Make sure you are aware of the dangers of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) . We took Diamox but only when we had AMS symptoms. However, it is a controversial medication so be sure and discuss side effects with your physician.

In Lhasa, there were throngs of pilgrims, some have traveled for months and even years in their journey to Lhasa. The weathered faces of the pilgrims seem to mirror the mountains that surround them; a reflection of a very difficult life amidst challenging elements.

There are also fresh new faces darting through the devoted pilgrims; faces of the Chinese settlers and tourists from other nations who are slowly transforming this city into a shadow of it's former self.
